Health kick start Version ∞ + 1.2

Here I am again, at the beginning (ish) of another attempt to be fit and healthy. I took at look at my ‘Goalified’ category and found that the first time around I did this was back in January of 2009. That’s the first time in my archives anyway. It also had the same title as this except it was version ∞ + 1.

It was strange to read back the few posts I did mention it (there are probably more I didn’t categorise/tag right) and see that I basically still have the same problems:

  1. Snacks are to delicious
  2. I allow myself to get to a certain weight and then decide to do something, until I get lazy again
  3. I like all the ‘bad’ foods.

This time around they were all involved and I did hit that alarm bells ringing weight and decide ‘enough is enough!’, fortunately this time around Jarrod decided the same thing. We realised we couldn’t spend each night sitting on the couch watching TV shows eating massive bowls of icecream concoctions we made up ourselves anymore (it was a sad, sad day indeed). Even if that’s what we really wanted to be doing. But we wanted to be strong, fit and healthy a little bit more.. oh and no longer have to wear our ‘fat pants’.

This has probably been the reason I’ve been able to keep going with eating healthier and increasing exercise. I don’t have to sit on the couch watching Jarrod eat a block of chocolate while I have nothing and give in to it all. We’re in this together and sad about our lack of Carbonara together – I think that really is the worst; Cream, bacon, cheese and pasta all in a meal together? I can’t imagine not wanting it twice a week.  We’re learning to eat less and eat more nutritious and filling things.. even though I did just eat a row of Smarties chocolate, the difference is we now eat a row, not half a block.

One thing to I have to get used to is having less high sugar alcoholic drinks, I don’t think it’ll be hard but it’s just amazing how many calories they pack in and, how awful they really do make you feel. On Friday night I had a few cans of pear cider at after work drinks and not only did it total about 700 calories it also made my stomach feel queasy, bloated and overall not good. The last time I remember feeling that way was a few weeks ago when we had a Maccas splurge and just wanted to die afterwards. I haven’t gone back to Maccas since, which is probably a good thing because my lunch totalled more calories than I’m meant to have in a day.

One amazing thing I’ve found is that I don’t really crave snacks so much as I used to, we have a bunch of chocolatey goodness in our cupboard that has been there for weeks. If chocolate is open I usually can’t resist, now I can’t remember how long ago we bought it.

I’m hoping to keep this updated, as a sort of accountability, so I can look back in 6 months and say I finally did it this time. I’ll also be posting any healthy or alternative recipes (like my potato and bacon pizza) I make to help other people out as well.

  1. Wow, that sounds like an awesome journey you’ve embarked on. I’ve been trying to be healthier, too, my mom bought a juicer so recently I’ve been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, which is making me feel more energy and helping with my snacking problem as well. I wish you luck!!

  2. I really should take note. About once a month I decide to eat more healthily but then I’m terrible at staying motivated … I think being tired from worketc are my biggest downfalls because then I just come home and snack on all the bad things!

  3. My boyfriend and I were the same, and it totally worked for us. Just doing it with another person adds in a ton of extra encouragement and accountability that pushes you along. And, the two of us also stopped craving snacks and sugar. It feels wonderful.

So, keep going! You won’t regret it.

  4. That is really wonderful that you are doing it together because you can also be a support to each other and hopefully keep on track! I am really glad that you have been going well so far, I hope it continues and you both feel really healthy, fit and happier. 😀

  5. Good job cutting out the junk! The less you eat junk food, the less you crave it. I had a bag of chips in the cupboard that I had completely forgot I had bought a few months ago. The problem my boyfriend and I have been having is that we eat out too often because it’s just easier. I’m hoping we can cut that down to about once or twice a month like it used to be before I started dating him. Not only is it better for your health, but it’s better for your wallet.

  6. Good luck with your journey of being fit and healthy! Despite of having the same habits that leads to problems, at least you know about it and can do something about it instead of wondering what “wrong” you’re doing. Improvements take small steps at a time. It’s great that you’re eating less junk food and more healthy food. Not having the craving for snacks is a plus for a healthy life! Keep it up~

  7. Good luck with this, Kalliste! It is a bit hard to do this and I have personally tried myself a lot… but the more you keep trying the easier it is. I remember trying to cut out junk a lot and eventually it got to the point where I was actually refusing offers for junk food and going for some fruit or vegetables instead. Personally, if I eat too much junk, I make sure I have lots of water and eat more vegetables at dinner. :3

Hope to hear more about your progress! <3

  8. That’s great that you managed to do this!! Well done! I’ve also noticed that when I eat less crap food, I don’t want any either. Many people say they are “sugar dependent” but I don’t believe in that.. at least not for myself. I enjoy drinking Coke or having a bite of Snickers but I don’t HAVE to have sugar. Both with or without sugar is fine.. as long as it tastes good.
    Keep up the good work!

  9. Good luck! Whatever attempts I’ve made to eat well are normally foiled by my family, haha. Just because after school I come home and my mum’s just made dinner and I just don’t have the heart to be like “so what if you’ve spent 30 minutes slaving over this, I won’t eat it”.

I just try to limit junk, though I have a fondness for Hula Hoops that just won’t go away D:

    Take care! xx
