*shudder*

Why is it that when we’re young, all we want is to be older and yet when as we grow up all we want is to be young again?

Is there ever a time in our lives where we think ‘Yep, I’m happy to be here, this right here is a good age’? And then again, what does a number matter anyway?

Well, I say that but my next paragraph is about an older woman I saw today while on the bus (I caught 4 buses today! The first time in a long time. I forgot what people watching was like). She would have been in her 60’s I’d say, she had cropped grey hair and was quite slim. All quite natural for someone of that age. That is where the ‘natural’ ends though.
This woman was wearing skin tight jeanstyle-printed leggings (does that make sense? Basically, it was a pair of leggings made to look like jeans), a pair of black heels, a super-tight blue singlet, under which you could see her bright red bra peeking out. All in all, trash.

I looked at her and couldn’t help but sneer. I wanted to yell at her to grow the hell up and stop wearing her grandkids clothes! Although, I did think it was nice that she didn’t dye her hair.

Why is it that we do this? Why do we feel the need to make ourselves appear younger as we get older? Why can we grow old gracefully anymore? Possibly, because we’re living longer, maybe that woman still felt like she was young.

The same deal goes with young kids I guess. Why do little girls feel the need to wear miniskirts and heels? Why are tiny g-strings now for sale (and who would buy them for their kids)?

Perhaps, we all want to be teenagers, and yet teenagers generally don’t like being teenagers! What is the world to do? I wonder if there will be a time when we won’t age, physically anyway. Will a drug be released that will keep us looking young forever? Maybe one day there will be an actual Fountain of Youth.

Wouldn’t that be confusing though? You see a nice looking person walking down the street and wonder if you should ask them out and then find out they’re as old as your grandma! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I hate it when I see older people wearing clothes that they are obviously too old to be wearing. I hope that if I ever do that, that someone will tell me to smarten up.

And I agree about the young kids wearing clothes that they aren't old enough for. If I had a child I would not let them wear those things. Sure, they would be mad at me, but I don't care.

  2. It always creeps me out when I see older women dress like that, mostly because I immediately imagine my grandmother in those clothes. (Which, thank god, would never happen.)

I think it's hilarious to hear some people wish they were a teenager again. I'd never want to grow through that all over again. Painful growth spurts, teen-based depression? No thank you. And to have little girls try and rush to be that at such a young age? Creeps me the hell out. Not to mention, it saddens me. Children should be children, and being a child does not include wearing two inch heels that will permanently damage their spine.

  3. I never liked the thought of getting older, I enjoy being a kid; as long as I could remember I always wished to remain a child, climbing the trees and playing in mud. Yes I was that type of child, I'm scared of growing up and this year I would officially be an "adult" but I've realized its your mentality. I'm happy where I am, even when I get old and wrinkly, as long as I'm happy, I'm good ๐Ÿ™‚

I would be shocked and a bit amused if I saw someone dressing like that woman but not too critical. If she feels happy dressing that way then fine. I guess at that age she wants to try and hold on to some of her youthfulness.

I feel differently about children. I don't like seeing children dressing too old and trying to push out what they've haven't developed; it saddens me and its slightly disturbing.

I would like to age gracefully while being a kid at heart…with a wise mind ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. I've wondered the same thing myself (about young people wanting to be older, and older people wanting to be younger) and then decided that I'd always be happy with whatever age I'm at ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Okay. That was gross.

Hmm. I do get the point why teenagers wants to be an adult. Because they want people to treat them like one. They can't decide for themselves and always have to follow the adults. If they decide to do this the adults would say, no don't do that, do this. Just follow what I say. The kids obviously don't understand why they have to follow the adults orders. I guess you just have to explain every little detail to them. That would make the kids more mature as well ๐Ÿ™‚
