Phantom Pony

Currently, on the graveyard shift, I am alone in the office much of the time. That is, up until the person before me leaves at midnight and the 8am starter gets in, I am alone in the dark in a 4 storey office building. Did I mention it has been storming for the entire time I’ve been doing this shift? It is the perfect setting for a thriller movie. There is even a fluro light that flashes.

On this shift I generally only have 2 sets of lights on. One in my office and one in the break room. There is also a small trail going to the front of the office. Earlier, I was walking back from the toilet (it is OUTSIDE the office, I have to go into the foyer just to go to the toilet! Each time I am scared the door won’t open for my pass and I’ll be standing out there with no shoes and only a security pass to my name) and as I walked into the main office I noticed a shady looking figure on the other side of the room out of the corner of my eye.

I tried to take a better look but I didn’t have my glasses and I had just put eye drops in and everything was a bit blurry. As my heart raced I wondered if it were an intruder, or was it a ghost, or was it something else?

I crept a little closer and as I inched my way over I noticed it was bright pink and was in fact sitting on a desk. What was it? It was a huge My Little Pony stuffed toy sitting on someones desk.

And I ask myself “Who the hell keeps oversized stuffed toys on their desk??”

  1. Ouch, that is creepy. I tend to see huge red mushrooms out of the corner of my eye. Obviously once I turn around, they end up being something completely different and much more boring.

You’re really brave for working the night shift. I don’t think I could do it. I am way too jumpy and would be too busy imagining all sorts of horror stories, instead of working ๐Ÿ™

  2. That’s hilarious! Oh all the things that people keep on their desks.

I admire you for working the graveyard shift. That’s something that I could never do. It’d be too scary and depressing for me.

  3. Scary! I don’t think I could do a graveyard shift on my own. If other people where around, then sure, but not alone. You have a lot of nuts. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would say.. It’s OK to have like, a Winnie the Pooh bear or something on your desk, but.. “My little pony”? And a HUGE one? Bleg. ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. Haha that is kind of weird. I can understand having a small action figure or maybe even a small my little pony but a huge stuffed one? Nah, definitely a little creepy.

  5. That’s so peculiar! I would just assume it was for a present, or just for laughs, or perhaps they can’t part with their dear little pony.

Like Jana, I don’t think I could do a graveyard shift on my own. I have to admit, you are really brave haha! I wouldn’t mind people being around but on my own, I’d be scared. I’m scared of the dark as it is, and still afraid of walking around in my house too late at night even with lights. D:

In response to your comment it would be amazing to watch the sun rise! That reminds me of when I went to the mountains over in Indonesia and we were at the top of one, hoping to see the sun rise, but it was pouring rain! ๐Ÿ™

  6. I think I would be afraid if I had to work the nigh shift alone. If I ever saw something that I thought was an intruder or ghost, I would immediately run in the opposite direction. I get scared easily. Just tonight I thought I heard breathing or gasping coming from the kitchen and I shut my bedroom door so quickly and crept in my bed trying to calm my overly excited heart. Turns out it was part of the background music of a song that was playing on my computer. I felt so LAME.

Funny that it turned out to be a stuffed toy, I think I might be a person who keeps such things on my work desk. Small ones though, I won’t want to be frightened by a large toy on my desk. ๐Ÿ˜›
