I hate my phone!

I’m putting it out there, I can’t stand my phone. It’s just over 2 years old now and it drives me insane!

Going back a few years, I used to have a work provided iPhone4 which was ok, it was free.. I wasn’t going to complain. When I was made redundant from there they asked for it back and I was left my crappy old phone that didn’t even know what the internet was.

I decided being without a smart phone was just too difficult and went on a hunt for a new phone. At the time, as I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have much expendable income and I decided to go on a plan that came with a phone. I wanted an HTC and for some reason (I can’t remember now) I decided that it should be an HTC Sensation. In the beginning it was good, I liked the camera, it was easy to use and even though it didn’t have Instagram (it came out on Android a few weeks after I got the phone) I was still happy with it.

But then! It started to randomly crash and when it restarted itself, it would come back with up much less battery, it could have had 100% before it died and it restarted with 10% for example. This was highly frustrating, more so when it would repeatedly crash to the point where I had to take out the battery to get it to stop. It sometimes gets to the point where I just want to throw it on the ground, stomp on it a few times and then throw it in a fire, to see it burn a melty death.

Apparently this is a known issue with the HTC Sensation but if you take it to your carrier to get it replaced they blame water damage and make you pay for it.. so I’ve been stuck with this phone for 2 years now.

Finally, I’m out of contract on the phone and I’m going to do something about it! Yes, I’m buying a new phone but I’m not sure what to get. Currently, I’m thinking about either a Nexus 5 or a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

What type of phone would you recommend? Do you own either the Nexus 5 or Xperia Z1 Compact and have a review on it?

  1. I hate it when phones give people troubles… I don’t understand why they can’t one day make a perfectly flawless phone that just works.

Mine was like that, it was a droid (I still have a droid but it’s a new one) and I ended up smashing it before getting a brand new one for my birthday. It gave me such a hassle after just a year of owning it – the flash stopped working on it and would shut off the entire phone just because I wanted to use the flash on the camera, it would freeze when I tried loading certain apps that didn’t even have too much space to take up on my phone. I had trouble with the charging port too, at one point, and thought it was the battery so I wasted 30 dollars on a brand new batter, put it in my phone and it STILL didn’t work. It turns out when I brought it to Sprint that there was something loose in the charging port and there was nothing they could do about it and told me it was a common problem!! Ridiculous.

Right now though? I have a phone that I got through Boost Mobile, it was the cheapest one I could buy at the time, but it’s not bad. It’s a Kyocera Hydro… but I wouldn’t recommend it, honestly.

  2. I think most smartphones only last two years at the most. 🙁 You are very patient to put up with your phone for this long! My friend has what I think is one of the really old Nexus phones and it keeps dying. He is pretty apathetic about it, it keeps dying on him after a charge, it won’t last very long… in fact, every phone call or message thread, he says “oh my phone’s dying, by the way, so email me later since I have access to a computer”. Sigh… :p

I have only ever had a Samsung Ace (that is, other than my iPhone/s). I am not sure what to suggest for a new phone, but I have heard that a good lot of HTCs (particularly the Sensation, LOL) are not very good.

I hope you find a new phone that serves you well!

    • I haven’t heard much about HTCs other than the One which has good reviews. I was thinking of getting the One M8 but can’t see myself spending $750 on a phone.

  3. Oh man, that sucks! Those phone companies, just can’t wait to rip ya off. I had a HTC that did the same thing then I got the iPhone 4s. I loved it! So now I have the IPhone 5c & it’s yellow. Apple got me hooked! Grrr. I’m stopping by from SITS & I hope you have a great night!

  4. My dad owned a HTC, and it wasn’t that long until it started freezing and shutting down randomly and eventually stopped working (a little less than a year I think?) You’ve put up with yours for a quite long time, I think you deserve to treat yourself to a new phone.

I’m currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note II which I’ve been using for over a year now and haven’t had any problem with. It’s a great phone if you’re into bigger ones like me. Anyways, I heard Nexus 5 is really good. My friend got one three months ago after reading a lot of good reviews about it and she loves it so far.

Good luck on finding a new phone!

    • Thanks for the feedback! I’m really considering the Nexus, I just need to work out whether I want the red one or not! It’s so bright, but so cool!
